i-MiEV, like all Mitsubishis, features our Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution body design, or RISE. This is a rigid safety shell that resists impact around the occupants and absorbs inspecially located crumple zones. Not only is it strong, it’s light, adding to efficiency and performance.

i-MiEV features three-point ELR safety belts with pre-tensioners. This safety belt system also takes safety to the next level by reeling in any slack before an impact and then releasing a small amount to minimise the effect on the occupants.

Being an all-electric vehicle, i-MiEV has particular safety requirements, which are aptly met. In the event of an emergency, circuit breakers cut all the power from the crucial units instantly.

There are times when you need to really hit the brakes. To enable you to steer as you slow down, even on a wet surface, i-MiEV uses ABS brakes.

To be doubly safe, the braking system also incorporates Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, or EBD. This will send precisely the right amount of brakeforce to each wheel. If the road is uncertain, this feature is very reassuring.

Active Traction Control senses loss of traction from the driving wheels and responds immediately by limiting power to the wheel that’s slipping and sending power to the other wheel.

Active Stability Control senses for even the slightest under- or over-steer and lets you maintain the safest line round a corner or obstacle.
