10,000 units and counting for Mitsubishi Motors NZ; next stop: 10% market share

Mitsubishi Motors NZ (MMNZ) has achieved a massive 10,000 new vehicle sales for 2017 – with one month still to go. The result crowns a period of sustained growth for the company and underlines its status as New Zealand’s fastest-growing mainstream brand within the automotive sector.

"We set ourselves the target of 10,000 sales in a calendar year back in 2009 and have not let up since that moment," said Daniel Cook, general manager of vehicle sales and marketing. "Our focus has been to deliver eye-catching, dynamic vehicles that suit modern Kiwi lifestyles and offer excellent value for money, while ensuring every aspect of the customer experience is positive and enjoyable."

Eight years of consecutive year-on-year growth have seen MMNZ increase its total car and LCV market share to 7.4%, supported by a string of compelling, innovative new releases and updates and a comprehensive approach to customer service.

MMNZ has been ahead of the curve in key areas – especially ute and SUV sales, which now make up 65% of the total New Zealand market. It has also been among the very best-performing customer call centres in the country, and in 2015 was the most Googled car brand in New Zealand.

So far in 2017, diesel ute sales have grown 20% year-on-year, while the SUV segment has grown 20%. In the same period, sales of Triton, ASX and Outlander have outstripped the market with increases of 29%, 46% and 60% respectively.

"We have also kept innovation at the forefront of our new releases, such as the Outlander PHEV; New Zealand’s most popular Plug-In Hybrid SUV," said Mr Cook.

The continued success of star performers such as Outlander, ASX and Triton, backed by the popular Pajero Sport and perennial favourite Mirage will, it is hoped, propel MMNZ to its next major goal – a 10% market share.

"We still have some big ambitions, so it is important we set ourselves a new challenge to ensure we build on our recent success. With the December release of the exciting all-new Eclipse Cross, we believe a 10% share of the market is an achievable goal."

Mr Cook said that everyone involved across the MMNZ network shares in the success and can be proud of their achievement.

"This is a result our entire organisation can be extremely proud of," said Mr Cook. "We have put serious focus and investment into ensuring that each and every one of our customers receives excellent service and continues to get the most out of their Mitsubishi, every time they get into their vehicle.

"Our Customer Care Centre has won numerous awards for excellence, including being named best in the country for its size, and our dealers are continually challenged to out-do themselves through our annual Diamond Dealer programme, ensuring that we drive performance standards across the board."
