Smart and sophisticated – introducing the new 2018 ASX

Mitsubishi’s stylish crossover SUV has a stunning new look and a host of tech upgrades for 2018 – all at no extra cost to customers. With a premium makeover that goes significantly beyond the aesthetic, ASX now offers even better value for discerning drivers.

Daniel Cook, general manager of vehicle sales and marketing, said the 2018 model ASX “delivers on our customers’ key considerations – enjoyment, confidence and exceptional value for money”.

“It looks great, features leading technology that fits today’s lifestyles, and has improved functionality across the board,” said Mr Cook. “In the VRX, an array of advanced safety features add further peace of mind. We are confident these upgrades will resonate with our customers and are delighted to keep prices at their current level.”

Form and function

The 2018 model makes an eye-catching entrance with its sleek new front bumper and chrome trim, while continuing to boast the distinctive ‘Dynamic Shield’, a design that positions it with the rest of the brand’s SUV family.

Attention-grabbing front and rear LED daytime-running lamps further embellish the new ASX, while a glossy black centre panel, honeycomb grill and head-turning silver tailgate garnish complete the package.

Inside, the premium look continues with high-grade cloth upholstery and a leather-effect sports trim echoed on a new floor console. Exterior silver detailing is picked up on the door-mounted window switch panel, and a new centre panel houses two USB ports and the vehicle’s Active Stability Control function. On VRX models, the seat heater switch is also situated alongside.

The bar has clearly been raised for ASX standard spec with the addition of Smartphone Link Display Audio (SDA), which integrates up-to-the-minute, on-the-go communication with the freedom of the open road.

Simply pair an iPhone (iOS 8.0+) or AndroidTM device (5.0+) with SDA via USB cable to make and receive calls, manage text messages through voice control, navigate the way to adventure, and listen to some favourite tunes along the way.

“Mitsubishi SDA technology gives drivers access to the functionality available on their smart phones, while keeping both hands on the wheel and eyes on the road – enabling safer, more enriching journeys,” said Mr Cook.

Occupants’ listening pleasure and comfort in the 2018 ASX is further enhanced by improved insulation, helping to keep intrusive road noise at bay.

The right gear for the job

All models have new gearshift positioning and the addition of a low gear (L) for ascending steep hills and heavy engine braking at low speeds.

The 2WD XLS also features downshift (Ds) for engine braking or when extra acceleration is necessary.

Premium VRX models benefit from a number of new safety systems – Forward Collision Mitigation, Lane Departure Warning and Auto High Beam.

Forward Collision Mitigation laser radar and camera technology determines if a frontal collision with a vehicle or pedestrian is imminent. If so, it warns the driver with audible and visual signals and automatically applies moderate to emergency braking to reduce the severity or prevent such an incident.

Lane Departure Warning alerts the driver if they are drifting off course.

Auto High Beam detects if there are no vehicles ahead or approaching and automatically turns on full beam to improve visibility.

It all adds up to Mitsubishi’s most sophisticated ASX model yet. With a host of accessories available for further enhancement, including a new front nudge bar, there is plenty to attract new and existing fans.
