Mitsubishi marches on with another record-breaking month

Mitsubishi Motors NZ (MMNZ) continues to go from strength to strength, recording its best June result in 28 years on the back of a massive month in May.

MMNZ registered 1,130 units in June – a 27% year-on-year increase boosted by the company's biggest ever sales of Outlander PHEV (49 units) and the continued success of Triton (463 units).

Marketing manager Reece Congdon said that Outlander PHEV’s new Fast Charge capability – and a large fleet order from leading electricity generator and retailer Mercury – plus the ongoing Triton GLX-R sales promotion, played key roles in the result.

“The popularity of our Triton GLX-R marketing campaign has been a significant contributor to this month’s success,” said Mr Congdon. “We have sold 376 GLX-R 4WDs since the campaign launched.”

“On top of that, our custom-built Triton Huntaway created a huge buzz at Fieldays and was another driver of sales at the event.”

Across May and June, Triton sales have totaled 964 units. Outlander PHEV continues to lead its segment and enjoyed a record month, boosted by a sizeable order from Mercury, which builds on what was already the largest Plug-in Hybrid fleet in the country.

“Outlander PHEV is New Zealand’s favourite Plug-in Hybrid, equally popular as a family car and in company fleets. The DC Fast Charge port on the new model, released in March, means that drivers can recharge the vehicle’s battery from 0-80% within 20 minutes, allowing greater flexibility and increased fuel savings on longer journeys. With an increasing network of charging stations across the country, Outlander PHEV is now more appealing than ever.

“We are delighted that Mercury has chosen to advance its leadership in the move towards electric vehicles by embracing the utility of the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV,” said Mr Congdon.

After finishing the 2016 financial year with an impressive 18% growth, MMNZ has already twice beaten its monthly record from that period and is tracking well towards its goals for FY2017.

“We are maintaining great momentum and are up 29% for the first quarter with 2,879 units sold,” said Mr Congdon.

“We are proud to offer an attractive line-up that fits with Kiwi lifestyles, is delivered at great value and is backed by the best new car warranty in the country. With the arrival of the new Eclipse Cross on the horizon, we are excited for the future and quietly confident we will achieve our eighth consecutive year of sustainable growth.”
